Search Engine Optimization Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a series of techniques used in order to drive more traffic to a website through search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. By providing search engines with this information in a way that highlights the essential features of the website via high-impact keywords and keyword phrases, the popularity and page rank of a website can be increased. This, in turn, tends to result in a higher volume and higher quality of traffic to the website.
This is accomplished through:
- Study of Web Traffic Patterns and Trends
- Domain Name and Web Page Analysis
- Filename and Directory Name Analysis
- Title, Description and Keyword Analysis
- In-depth Competitive Analysis
Pay Per Click Advertising In Search Engine Marketing, Pay Per Click (PPC) campaigns are a way to direct would-be consumers to a company’s website through marketing ads that appear alongside search results in popular search engines such as MSN, Google and Yahoo. These marketing ads are paid for by a company in order to drive traffic to their website by having their advertisements appear at the top of a search results page under a SPONSORED LINKS heading.
There are several terms commonly used in measuring the effectiveness of a Pay Per Click (PPC) campaign: impressions, clicks, click through rates (CTRs), cost per click (CPC), average position, and conversions.
Impressions: The number of times ad has appeared
Clicks: The number of times an ad has resulted in a website visit
Cost Per Click: The monetary value that the search engine assigns to each click (note that the methods for calculating Cost Per Click vary by search engine)
Click Through Rates (CTRs): The number of clicks in relation to the number of impressions (ideally, every impression would result in a click)
Average Position: The average position (or order) a company’s ad takes in relation to all other company’s Pay Per Click campaigns on an ad by ad basis.
Conversions: The number of clicks coming from Pay Per Click campaigns that result in a desired action being taken, such as an online sale, an application being submitted, or a request for more information.
